PLANNING: Costume

1.
2.

As our music video has been inspired by Willejmin Mays sense of style. We decided to follow this dress scheme and decide to dress our artist in a summer/indie/hipster kind of way as we thought this was the best way to portray her music.  The costume will consist of neutral colours as shown in the pictures (black and white) because as we was filming in a natural setting we thought it would compliment the background well.
When shown to our audience, they said that the summery dresses fit well with the song and the simplicity of the costume didn't prove to be too much for the music video.

The pink dress with the necklace and bracelet perfectly depicts the summer mood we wanted with out video. Due to weather conditions we thought it would be too cold to go for this as our singer would not be willing to perform in these conditions. In additions the shoes would of been hard to walk in through the grass and hills.

The white jumper and flower skirt was the option we decided to follow. The simplicity of the white contracts with the simplicity of the song as well as the skirt compliments the setting.

We thought the pattern of this dress was suitable for our music video but the one piece was seen to be more of a festival outfit.

RESEARCH: Location

We began to film around 10am, we went deep into richmond park to find our location. These first two photos, we decided to stop here and find a spot to film our first shot.
We decided to sit our protagonist on the tree stump, and film a medium close up of her sitting down with her leg crossed.

Here one of our group members was staging the set for our shot. As we wanted the scene to look more natural.

Sat in the centre of the shot on the tree stump shown before our artist is ready to begin filming after we finish adding the final touches.

Audience Feedback for Animatic

Created a Social Media Account to get outside Opinions and Feedback

Overall the feedback given was encouraging. As well as using social media we used students who thought the ideas were "relevant" to a music video and "suitable for fitting into the Indie Pop genre". this feedback has showed us that we will defiantly stick to forest/woodland locations for filming as it fits well into the Indie Pop Genre.

MAGAZINE ADVERT FOR DIGIPAK

MAGAZINE ADVERT FOR DIGIPAK

From the past a2 classes magazine adverts I found this one very intriguing. I was really draw in by the colour pallet of the advert as it shows very feminine tones of pink and purple as the artist blends in the middle with not too much contrast. I think this helps them reach to their target audience such as teenage girls. I think it was a good idea to keep it simple yet loud as the colours are rather bald, but having just a simple image of the artist in the middle keeps it steady and takes enough attention away from the background, and having the background as buildings of New York keeps the advert relevant to the song. The emotion on her face reflects the mood of the song and the lyrics, allowing the audience to engage a connection with the song and the audience. Also, having the writing in simple font and white colour keeps the soft tone throughout and also keeps a fine balance of attention between the artist and the writing. Furthermore, I like how they included social media icons such as Facebook and Twitter as I feel this directs the advert more to a younger audience and keeping the extra links current to what is generally used by the teenage generation.

I really enjoy this advert as I feel it represents Jessie J for not only her music, but also her personality. The advert is loud, bold and daring, really bringing out the nature of Jessie J. The advert has a large image do a close up of Jessie J, taking up the majority of the space. Also, the background is white, in total contrast of her clothes, which is black, allowing all the attention on the image of the artist. Her nails, hair, clothes, eye make up and lipstick is all jet black, which shows a very nice contract from her skin completion. I feel this gives a good connection between her and her target audience, teenagers, and as the femininity of the image is limited, it appeals to both genders. There as also tones of gold with her jewellery, lips and the font; this is a great match with black and I feel this allows the advert to look less gothy and dark as it can be mistaken to go under the rock genre. furthermore, the brave look she went for is very different, which is what people are always looking for in an artist and I feel Jessie J executed that perfectly. Her facial expression shows emotions of anger and along the the black colours, this may reflect the tone of her music.

RESEARCH: Magazine Advert

Looking at the past A2 candidates that produced a magazine advert, I found this one which really stood out. It is for Christina’s music Video, and the colours used in contrast with the white makes this advert really affective.
I wouldn’t really put much to fault about this magazine advert, because as a consumer if I was at HMV and saw this, it will really captivate my attention.

Wretch 32 magazine advert is very young, this is portrayed by the use of colours being very fresh and current, and this is also reinforced with the use of typography used to present his name as it can be referenced to street art. The black and white contrast allows the audience to be captivated by this advert as its intelligent use of colour doesn’t push away the young target audience that the company is going for. What the consumer can see is Wretch himself placed in the middle of the advert; this is used to allow the consumer to identify the artist if they do not know the name already. The estate blocks beside the artist connotes that this CD has an urban feel, and you can almost suggest that it is situated in London. At the bottom right corner of this advert we can see that there is sponsorship placed there, along with where you can purchase this CD (HMV).

Rihanna’s magazine advert is different to Wretch 32’s, its use of black and white makes it seem that Rihanna is trying to convey the message of her album being mysterious. The use of red on the words ‘Russian roulette’ and ‘hard’ can connote aggressiveness in her music which can be backed up that on the actual cover it says ‘rated R’. The lack of colour can also be linked with Plan B’s magazine advert for his CD. On his cover we can see that he too has a similar design to Rihanna’s. But the difference is that the use of red is not to convey violence but to outline important messages like ‘the multi-platinum album of the year’.

Different genres of music do target different audiences in many different ways when advertising their CD’s. For example, a rock band will not use the same colour scheme and typography as a hip hop band to advertise their music. Each type of genre has different consumers so they have to make sure that the way in which they advertise their product is set out for their target audience.
