Question 3 Draft

Initial idea of target audience: 14-22, both male and female
We based this information on the fact that this was the most commonly found age demographic that listened to similar artist like Taylor Swift and Ellie Goulding and we related this information towards our music video.

When creating a questionnaire, we based our questions around whether or not the audience knew what age demographic the song would fit into and what genre of music it was.  We wanted to find out what people liked in a common pop video to try to make our music video as modern and relevant as possible.

Examples: Favourite video and why? Setting and Location?
Target audience wanted us to have a young main character in it.

Focus groups helped us solidify what the questionnaires said and this feedback from our audience was essential in getting the right feel in our video. The use of the smoke bomb, we asked if this would be an idea that our audience would like to see implemented in our video, most said it was a good idea that fitted the theme of ‘Fire’ correctly and complied with modern conventions.

Audience’s feedback impacted on our video as we followed what the audience wanted and implemented it into our video. For example the use of a young girl to be the lead singer, dressed in fashionable clothes was requested so we made sure by our mise en scene that we dressed her on how we thought a typical teenager would dress, fashion guidelines were followed as we looked at outfits worn by Rihanna and Taylor swift and tried to replicate this.

It was mentioned that we should use an interesting location too shot our music video, we used Richmond park as our prime setting as the nature of the video was to represent freedom, as Richmond park has a lot of open spaces to be ‘free’ it depicted this nicely. Most of our audience did not desire any narrative to be implemented so we followed this and filmed the video without one.

First viewing: Feedback 1:  ‘The editing flowed quite well’- ‘Professional’ Out of 10= 8
Feedback 2: ‘I like the different location shots’ ‘Wow, lost for words’ ‘Editing made justice to the video’ out of 10? 8
We didn’t really receive much negative feedback other than the fact that our lip syncing could have been more on the second, which I disagree to as I thought that the lip syncing was precise.
I felt that I met the expectations of the audience through the use of young characters and the location suited the song.
The video was an interpretation of teenage life and the desire to be free from the fire dwelling inside.
Marketing of video- ancillary task yet to be done.
