PLANNING: Lyrics

Below it showsmy group and i having a conversation with the artist informing her when the production is going to be finished and asking for the lyrics to her song 'Fire'. Even though Willemjin lives in another country, she has proved to be very useful as her quick replys has allowed us to progress quickly through the stages of production.

Lyrics:

Fire

Do we know when it is our time
Do we know which way to go
We’re only driving this car one time
So we never really know

What if we would end up in a mystery land
We don’t mind
At all
And what if we all stand up for our own judgement and freedom
This is our life
And we’ll make it right

Can we light this fire up
I know we can
We can
It’s a start of something new
We can try to brighten it up
Light up the world
Let the silence in you burn
‘Till you can feel it

So tell me are you still complaining
Want a better way to live
Life is ours no one can take it
A little love is all we’ve got to give

So what if we can’t fight
Because our hands are tied
It’s alright
We’ll stand tall
And what if we all end up with our empty hands in the sky
It’s still our life
And we’ll make it right

Can we light this fire up
I know we can
We can
It’s a start of something new
We can try to brighten it up
Light up the world
Let the silence in you burn
‘Till you can feel it

Fire it up
It’s all we gotta
All we gotta do 3x

This is our life
And we’ll make it right

Can we light this fire up
I know we can
We can
It’s a start of something new
We can try to brighten it up
Light up the world
Let the silence in you burn
‘Till you can feel it

The world is changing
The world is changing so much 2x

RESEARCH: Genre

Rap music has been around for nearby 70 years. The breakthrough of rap started in the 1970's and even since then it was known for its controversy and crossing a lot of the boundaries that other music genres had already set.
It is said that the rap originals were founded from tribesmen in West Africa where they held "men and words" in high regards. When slaves where brought into what was known as as the "New World" the captures would combine beats that they had remembered alongside with different phrases. Coming up to the 1960's rap became known as a street art and the earlier songs were primarily negative thought and boastful tales about other rappers.

The genre of rap firstly grew up in Washington DC, Philadelphia and New York, were rap music was most influential to black teenagers and then began to grow into a wider audience. The Sugarhill Gang's song titled "Rappers Delight" was released in 1979, as is known as the first major rap single. The most recognisable artist of this day and age and people like Tupac, Biggie Smalls, Lil Wayne, Eminem to name a few. the topics that these artists tend to write about is the "life" of a certain individual or group, drugs, love, lust/desire. Most of these artist usually show a clear display of emotion, for example if the tone of the song is angry, the artist is likely to present this through their gestures and facial expressions.

Usually in the video the regarding costume for a rap artist tend to be casual clothing, nothing to characteristic but more subtle and loose , also wearing jewellery , as most common rap artists are known to use heavy chains and prominent rings. Today a lot of rap artists have another artist featuring in their tracks, for example if it's a male rapper, they may have a female singer to vocalise the chorus.

An example of this convention is the heavy chains in snoop dogs video 'drop it like its hot', the artist is seen wearing a clear display of jewellery, in this video we can see that artist ten to show pictures, or direct shots of themselves which convey emotion or meaning to the song.
Finally, the target audience for rap is not usually too specific but actually quite broad. Rappers Kanye West say that they target an audience between the ages of 14-25, while other artists claim they try to appeal to these of a similar age to themselves, so this will vary between artists.

GENRE RESEARCH

Rock music is a genre of popular music that originated as "rock and roll" in the United States in the 1950s, and developed into a range of different styles in the 1960s and later, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States.
It has its roots in 1940s and 1950s. Rock and roll itself heavily influenced by rhythm and blues and country music. Rock music also drew strongly on a number of other genres such as blues and folk, and incorporated influences from jazz, classical and other musical sources.

Musically, rock has centred on the electric guitar, usually as part of a rock group with electric bass guitar and drums. Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. the dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the themes explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music.

By the late 1960s, referred to as the "golden age" or "classic rock" period, a number of distinct rock music sub-genres had emerged, including hybrids like blues rock, folk rock, county rock, and jazz-rock fusion, many of which contributed to the development of psychedelic scene.

Rock music has been associated with political activism as well as changes in social attitudes to race, sex, and drug use, and is often seen as an expression of youth revolt against adult consumerism and conformity.

Artist Research-Willemijn May

Initial Research
Willemijn is a Dutch singer / songwriter. In writing her songs she is inspired by various well-known singer songwriters such as Ed Sheeran and Carrie Underwood. Her songs are mostly about love and life, but are left here and there for the imagination.
Her passion for songwriting and composing her own songs brought her into contact with other songwriters and producers & In 2012 she auditioned for ‘the Master of Horizontoer’. Despite her young age she was accepted.
During this Masterclass she was coached by Tjeerd Bomhof and Anton Arema and this was a great experience for her as she grew in her singing and performance.

In 2013 she took part again in the masterclass which resulted in the creation of her song "FIRE " which came out as a single on her first EP in collaboration with producer Henk Pool. Together they spent a lot of time in the studio. As well as her EP, she is working hard on new songs!

To find out more about her i looked into her Social networking sites

Through researching her Networks sites it shown me who she is as an artist. its shown She's an Indie Pop artist.

Budget Britney

Budget Britney

Budget Britney was a small project that we didi to allow us to get a taste of creating and editing a music video. We used various different camera shots and locations to shoot this music video. This allowed us to gain new skills and learn more about how to produce a music video.

The Editing of the music video was a lot more complex than i was used to when editing the thriller/ We had to learn how to lip sink the audio with the singers on screen which from doing is a new skill i have acquired as an editor. Also using different camera angles and shots in good places in the music video to make the music video look more professional.  Our budget Britney final product came out very well and i am proud of the work that we have done as a group and believe that this will help us greatly when it comes to filming and editing our final music video.

Permission letter

We messaged our unsigned artist, Willemijn May via soundcloud to ask for her permission to use her song "Fire"

PLANNING: Initial Ideas

As a group we decided to all sit down and converse about what we would like to include in our music video, we went through the song many times and dotted down ideas of what we should film when certain lyrics came up and certain shots which will go well with the actual song.
